LinkedIn Banner Safe Area & Crop Guide

The LinkedIn banner safe area is the part of your image that survives every layout: outside the profile photo overlap, inside the mobile crop, and clear of the interface at the top. This page maps each of those zones with measurements in pixels and lets you switch them on over your own banner.

    How to read the overlays

    Each overlay marks a different risk. Red is where your profile photo sits. Amber shows the bands the mobile app can crop. Blue is the slight desktop trim at the edges and bottom. Purple is the top strip where interface elements can appear. Green is what is left: the reliable area for your message.

    These masks are approximations. LinkedIn does not publish exact crop values and adjusts its layouts over time, so treat the green zone as a comfortable margin rather than a pixel-perfect boundary.

    Designing inside the safe area

    The most common mistake is centring a headline in the design tool. Visually centred text often lands close enough to the mobile crop to lose a word or two, and a left-aligned logo disappears behind the avatar.

    A layout that holds up everywhere usually puts the key line slightly right of centre, keeps a clear lower-left corner, and uses the edges only for background texture or colour that can be cropped without anyone noticing.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is the LinkedIn banner safe area?
    The central region of a 1584 x 396 banner that stays visible on desktop and mobile and is not covered by your profile photo. In practice that is roughly the middle 62% of the width and the middle 68% of the height.
    How much of my banner does mobile crop?
    Expect the outer band on each side — around 220 pixels at 1584 wide — to be hidden or partly hidden inside the app.
    Do these crop areas ever change?
    Yes. LinkedIn adjusts its profile layouts periodically, so leave a margin rather than designing right up to the edge of a safe zone.
