LinkedIn has no built-in formatting controls, so bold and italic text has to be created with Unicode characters instead. Frequently asked questions

Why does LinkedIn not have a bold button?
LinkedIn's post composer accepts plain text only. Any bold or italic text you see in a post is made from Unicode characters that happen to look like styled letters.
Will screen readers read the styled text correctly?
Often not. Unicode styled characters can be read out character by character or skipped entirely, so use them sparingly and keep your key message in normal text.
Does formatted text affect reach?
LinkedIn has not published anything confirming that. Treat heavy formatting as a readability decision rather than a reach tactic.
